The theme is ‘In Search of the Holy Grail: Lessons in Performance Management’.

Peter Honey is a psychologist and independent management consultant specialising in all aspects of human behaviour and its consequences.

He regularly conducts programmes on creative thinking and problem-solving.

Dr Honey said that he would be bringing a message to managers focusing on how to create an environment at work that encouraged learning and development.

‘By and large managers, are very bad at that,’ he said.

‘I can understand why, for they have other priorities, but sending someone on a course is not the whole story.

‘Developing people is essential to getting the job done.

Learning is one of the great motivators – one of the reasons people leave their job is lack of developmental opportunities.

People think they have plateaued, and off they go to a job with more learning potential.
