The Devon and Cornwall Police are conducting an independent inquiry into the accident which occurred on Monday 1 August on St Clement’s Coast Road, near La Mare car park.

The marked police car was in collision with a red Mazda driven by Debbie Gardiner (37), with her husband, David, as passenger.

Mrs Gardiner died of multiple injuries and her husband is recovering from serious injuries.

This week, acting detective superintendent Andy Boulting said the investigation team would like to speak to anyone who saw a marked police car travelling along the route described below at around 1 pm on Monday 1 August.

In addition, they also want to talk to representatives from businesses or private properties along the route who have CCTV systems which view the roadside.

On that day, the police car turned left out of police headquarters in Rouge Bouillon at around 12.58 pm into Elizabeth Place.

From there, the car turned left into the Parade and right into Gloucester Street.

Turning left into Route de la Libération, the police car went into the Tunnel and on to Route du Fort passing through the junction with St Clement’s Road and through Georgetown and Victoria Road.

Bearing right into Plat Douet Road, the car turned left onto St Clement’s Coast Road towards La Mare car park and the scene of the accident.
