Mick McCue resuscitated the woman after her husband found her unconscious in the sea on Thursday.
Mr McCue and his girlfriend Lindsay Wood had been on the beach sunbathing when the screams of the woman’s husband alerted him to what had happened.
‘The woman was playing with her grandchild in the water and everything was fine,’ he said.
‘Then her husband started looking around and shouting for her.
He went into the water and dived under, then we heard an awful scream.
He was carrying the woman out and she was blue and unconscious.
‘He dragged her out and she had no pulse or heartbeat.
I couldn’t give her mouth to mouth because her lungs were full of water so I started working on her back and shouted for someone to call an ambulance.
After ten minutes she coughed a bit of water but the ambulance still hadn’t come.
Then, after about 20 minutes she came round which was incredible.
‘Her grandchild and her daughter and husband were there and we were so happy.
It’s the sort of thing you don’t ever think will happen to you.
I get emotional thinking about it.’
