Springfield was awash with colour and echoing with noise as the Portuguese Super Liga team CS Mar?timo turned on the style to beat a Coca-Cola Combination Select 6-0.
It was a great footballing occasion for a crowd of 1,500, with the Jersey side deservedly holding their heads high after a stubborn and disciplined effort against the silky skills of Mar?timo.
If the crowd were mainly of Madeiran origin, Jersey fans also enjoyed the occasion, none more so than Micky Porter, a coach with St Paul’s junior section.
‘That’s the way that football ought to be played – absolutely fantastic.
The crowd were passionate.
And why shouldn’t they be, watching football like that?’
