Old Victorians, Romerils and Sporting Club maintained their interest with victories on Saturday while Caesareans will have to wait at least another year after they were beaten by champions Sporting Club.

With the sun shining brightly it was an excellent weekend for the batsman as three scored centuries, Oliver Hughes for OVs, Peter Scott for Romerils and Matt Hague for Sporting Club.

There were runs galore too as St Ouen made an excellent effort to overtake OVs’ massive 273 for 6 as they closed their 45 overs on 262.

So with just one round of matches remaining it is all still to be played for in the title race.

Leaders OVs, who face Sporting Club in their final match, rattled up their big score with young Hughes hitting 11 boundaries before being run out for exactly a ton.

The promising Hughes featured in a third-wicket partnership of 105 with Ward Jenner, the former Island captain, chipping in with 47.

Dave Morfee (44) and Rob Tewkesbury (30) put on 61 for the first St Ouen wicket and despite a super team effort they fell just short of their target.

Peter Scott’s first century in the Island, 103 not out after a dozen boundaries, came in 20 overs as Romerils racked up 281 for 5 against Springfield at Les Quennevais.

The division’s bottom team were all out 161, Micky Higgitt grabbing three wickets, while Phil Evans had a good match for the losers by scoring 48 runs together with claiming a catch and taking three wickets.

Matt Hague celebrated his Island captaincy by hitting his third three-figure score in five games – five boundaries on the way to 104 against Caesareans at the FB Fields.

Together with Steve Carlyon (63) the pair put on an opening partnership of 135.

Carlyon’s brother Tony followed up his Friday night 77 in a Twenty20 charity fixture with another 73, two sixes and three fours only for Caesareans’ middle-order and tail to falter, ending their title prospects.

St Ouen Reserves reached the Minor Cup final, against LTJJCA on 4 September, after defeating Springfield Reserves by eight wickets yesterday.

Aided by a second-wicket partnership of 114 between Dave Parry (69 not out) and William Kay (34), St Ouen reached their target with 14.2 overs to spare.

Parry hit nine fours.
