The new £500,000 paved area is just about complete and was scheduled to be opened officially today by the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, as part of St Helier week.

But the rank taxi drivers are still fighting to ensure that cars can return to the area.

They have an agreement with the Environment and Public Services Committee that six spaces be allowed in the newly redeveloped area.

The drivers and their union representatives are to meet committee president Senator Philip Ozouf on Tuesday lunchtime for further talks.
