They will be among teams from all over the world who will be in Surrey hoping to stamp their names in shooting history.

The Jersey marksmen and women will compete in the annual Imperial Meeting, the biggest annual target shooting event in the world with competitions fired at distances ranging from 300 to 1,000 yards.

Over 1,000 shooters are expected in each competition and the field for the prestigious Queen’s Prize will be over 1,500.

The Jersey team is hoping for a bagful of medals and team match selector Bruce Horwood is confident of success.

Said Horwood, “”We’ve got a strong squad and, even without a few of our best shots, we are capable of beating anyone.

We gel extremely well in team matches and dig deep when the pressure is on.’ With the 2006 Commonwealth Games looming and two places up for grabs at the end of the season, individual competition will be fierce.
