And the idyllic setting resulted in an excellent spectacular at Jimmy Perchard’s ground, the College defeating their under-12 counterparts from St Michael’s School by 62 runs.

VCP coach and Island cricketer Ben Silva said: ‘I’ve been involved in lots of Primary Schools’ cricket matches and the final was the best match I’ve ever seen.

‘The fielding was excellent by both teams and some of the strokeplay from the batsmen was very good.

Many parents commented how it was like watching the adults play.

‘Both schools can be extremely proud of their performances.

Cricket was certainly a winner on the day and that bodes well for the future.

A tight opening spell of bowling from Myles Richardson and Charlie Fricker resulted in VCP scoring only 26 runs off the opening nine overs in the 25-overs-a-side match.

However, the VCP openers then opened their shoulders to score freely all around the wicket, playing some lovely scoring strokes.

Dan Garton was eventually out for a fine 66 (eight fours and one huge six) and Freddie Seymour for a hard earned 42 (five fours).

The opening partnership was worth 135 runs and there was some excellent running between the wickets.

VCP eventually accumulated 161 for two wickets from their 25 overs, a marvellous achievement! St Michael’s reply began in solid fashion with Fricker and Richardson putting on 28 runs before Richardson was run out for 12 by a spectacular direct hit from the boundary from Seymour.

This proved the catalyst for some excellent VCP fielding which eventually limited the St Michael’s total to a respectable 99 for 5 off their 25 overs.

Fricker went on to top-score for his school with 34 including two boundaries.

Tom Simmons scored 16 while Findlay Hare, captain Ross Davis and Rufus Scholefield all took a wicket.

Umpires Tom McKeon, Director of Education, and Cliff Chipperfield both praised the excellent standard of cricket and sportsmanship displayed.

Man-of-the-match went to Freddie Seymour following his efforts with both bat and in the field.

Jimmy Perchard was thanked for providing a first-rate cricket pitch for the Jersey Primary Schools’ cricket cup final.
