NETBALL: The Jersey Girls Brigade side were delighted to win the netball trophy when they competed in the National GB Games in Coventry.

TOUCH: The Ernst & Young men’s knockout final winners at Jersey Rugby FC on Saturday were Gradebusters, who beat 101CD 3-2 in the final.

The mixed competition winners were Painkillers, who beat RBSI Mixed 6-3.

ATHLETICS: Jersey secondary schools beat their Guernsey counterparts for the fifth year in a row in the inter-island meet at FB Fields on Saturday.

Jersey won by 285 points to 264.

CYCLING: Caesarean CC’s Ali Cann won the handicap circuit race at Les Quennevais yesterday with his club mate Sam Firby second and Vélo Sport’s David Jardine third.

In the youth development programme races VSJ rider Stephen Haley won the three-lap under-13 race from club mates Luke Edmonsdon in second and Elliot Bardin in third while David Haine (VSJ) took the four-lap 13-plus race ahead of Chris Seviour (CCC) and Phil Vautier (VSJ).

SAND RACING: The winners at the Jersey Motor Cycle and Light Car Club’s sand racing event at Millbrook on Saturday were: Motor cycles: Junior Auto 50cc – Connor Hamon; Junior 60 – 65cc – Charley Mills; Junior 80 – 85cc – Sam Bingle; Senior – Dane Levee.

SHOOTING: The Jersey Rifle Association retained the Lieut-Governors’ Inter Insular Cup at Crabbé on Saturday, beating Guernsey by 21 points.

The JRA scored 1177.155 with in-form Richard Benest carding 150.24 and Graeme Harris 149.23.

WHIPPET RACING: Jenny Thomas’ Jetstream snatched both trophies at the Jersey Whippet racing Club’s track at La Moye track on Saturday.

In the first races the entrants ran over 100 yards in 2-dog teams for the Entro Pairs trophy.

Drawn with his older sister, Capuccina (Steve Lawson) Jetstream won each heat and then the hotly-contested final.

The second session of races was for the Club’s June Handicap Shield, over 100 yards.

Despite a six-yard handicap Jetstream won each heat, the semi final and the final, beating Doreen and Martyn Garnier’s Kalele (8 yds) by a short nose in the main final.

Third was Capuccina (7 yds), with David Lawson’s Cadbury overcoming a 13-yard handicap to finish fourth.

Una Le Ruez’s Sprite won the consolation race and the veteran of the day rosette.

BOWLS: In an exciting final Joan Renouf and David Le Boutillier beat Lambert Carré and Gaynor Thomas by 12 shots to 11 to win the Colin Thorne mixed pairs two-wood competition which was played at Les Creux BC on Saturday with the quarter finals onwards at the Sun BC on Sunday morning.

In the semi-finals Renouf and Le Boutillier beat Pat and Rodney De Gruchy and Carré and Thomas beat Peter Mavity and Gean O’Neil.

FOOTBALL: Jersey’s ladies team beat their Guernsey counterparts 3-1 in an Island Games warm-up match for the Sarnians at Foote’s Lane yesterday.

Jersey’s goals were scored by Jo Fuller, Serena Guthrie and Jodie Botteril.

MOTOR RACING: Jersey’s British International Formula 3 Championship driver James Walker finished 19th and eighth in his two races at Castle Combe, Wiltshire, yesterday.

Excellent pace on Saturday had meant Walker had qualified in sixth and eight places for the respective races.

GOLF: The Royal Jersey are through to the quarter finals of the Hants 7-a-side Knockout competition after beating Royal Guernsey 6-1 at L’Ancresse yesterday.

GOLF: Ross McEwan won La Moye GC’s Jubilee Putter competition on Saturday with a net 67 off 7 handicap, on countback from Division II winner, 10-handicapper Patrick Corkery.

George Kean, off 3, was third with a net 68, having secured the lowest gross score after countback.

BOWLS: Sun BC beat Den Tourists 126-78 at First Tower on Friday.

The visitors, from Teignmouth, Devon, lost 131-100 to St Saviour’s BC on Saturday.

CLAY TARGET: In the 100-bird selection shoot for the Home International Sporting competition in Ireland, Wayne Shales recorded 76 ex 100 to head Ashley Le Sech and John de la Haye, both 72 ex 100, and Dave Le Rendu, 70 ex 100.

Bill Staite and Wayne Shales won class A and B, respectively, with 42 ex 50 scores in a 50-bird sporting shoot at Crabbé yesterday, to share the high gun honour.

Adam Ward won class C with 24 ex 50.

TRIATHLON: On a tough course, with strong winds and a lumpy sea, Commonwealth hopeful Paul Clements comfortably won the PedalPower Triathlon in 1 hr 13 min 52 sec, five minutes ahead of a close race for second between Nick Le Cocq and third-place Terry Noel.

First lady was Jenny O’Brien in 1:33:37 ahead of Jo Gagnerie and novice Emily Williams with World Championship qualifier Michael Lucas winning the vet category.

GOLF: Royal Jersey made full use of home advantage to beat St Clement GC in both the Woodlands Trophy and the Gaudin Trophy, 5-1 and 51/2-1/2, respectively.

GOLF: Paul Langdon and Mike Simpson won the Royal Jersey GC’s Invitation Day competition with an 89 total from greensome 41 and fourball 48.

Barry Simpson and John Daws 87 (43, 44) were second and Martin Viney and Paul Rebours 85 (45, 40) third.

GOLF: Jeff Wright won the Demi Golf Society’s Stableford Hussle with 41 points off his 20 handicap at St Clement on Saturday.

Ian Beeley was second with 40 off 13 and Jorge Moniz third with 39 off 12.
