Triathlete Gary Jones (43), who is the deputy principal of Highlands College, was taken to the hospital from the college after reportedly feeling unwell and while in intensive care he suffered a second and major heart attack.
He spent much of the weekend in intensive care but is now in a general ward and said to be on the road to recovery.
It is not yet known whether he will still go to the Shetland Isles for the NatWest Island Games, but as the event starts in 12 days’ time it could be unlikely.
However, Island Games Association of Jersey chairman Bob McGinnigle said that no decision would be made until a committee meeting this Wednesday.
‘At the moment our thoughts are with Gary and his family over what has been a terrible scare,’ said Mr McGinnigle, ‘but we now know he has been moved to a general ward and is said to be making a great recovery.’
