And they accuse the Constable, Simon Crowcroft, of misleading the public.
Jersey Post said it was seeking to establish the basis of Mr Crowcroft’s allegations, published in the latest edition of The Town Crier.
In the parish newsletter, under the headline ‘Post Office still refusing rates’, Mr Crowcroft was quoted as saying that the shop within the post office had an annual rateable value of £50,000, but as Jersey Post is a States department it is not liable to pay.
He went on to say that this gave the Post Office shop an unfair advantage over similar town shops and despite requesting an ex-gratia payment for at least two years Jersey Post has not obliged.
Spokeswoman Helen Hart said: ‘Jersey Post believes that the article contains a number of inaccuracies and misleading statements.’
