Richard Jeune, the former managing partner of Mourant, whose father, ex-Senator Reg Jeune, was one of the co-founders of the firm as Mourant, du Feu and Jeune, was 56.

Mr Jeune stood down as managing partner of the legal and professional services group in October 2003 but then became chief executive officer of Mourant Equity Compensation Solutions, the firm’s highly successful division specialising in administering employee stock plans.

Nicola Davies, Mourant’s chief executive, said: ‘It is impossible to overstate Richard’s influence on the progress and growth of Mourant.

It was his vision of a multi-jurisdictional, multi-disciplinary professional services firm, defying conventional definitions, that drove us to become the successful international business we are today.

‘We owe him a huge debt of respect and gratitude for his passion and commitment to this business.’
