The Battle of Flowers Association have also responded to the concerns of Islanders following last year’s Battle.
They propose to return to a parade which goes both ways along Victoria Avenue, include a fireworks display after the Moonlight Parade, and reduce ticket prices.
They have asked Islanders to dress in traditional 1940s or 1950s costumes in groups or as individuals, to decorate bicycles, tricycles or tandems, or even to decorate horse-drawn carts in an attempt to capture the feeling of the early 1950s, when the Battle was restarted after the war.
Bob Pallot, chairman of the Battle of Flowers Association, said: ‘With the 60th anniversary of Liberation, the Battle wanted to do its bit.
Although this is a one-off, if it is successful, who knows? Maybe it will become a more permanent thing.
‘The main point is that the Battle is a local carnival, so the more local people who can participate the better.’
