Last month OU students received a letter from the university stating that fees for students in the self-governing islands of the British Isles could be ‘considerably higher’ by 1 August 2007.
As a result, OU south regional Jersey contact Claire Fernandes is calling on students to attend a meeting at Highlands College next Thursday.
Her request follows her attendance with Jersey delegate Peter Le Maistre at the Open University Students’ Association conference in Eastbourne on 2 April.
There, they put forward an emergency motion expressing students’ concerns about the effect of the proposed increase.
She said: ‘We are holding a meeting of the Open University Students’ Association for Jersey and other Channel Islands next Thursday from 6.30 to 8.30 pm.
Our main aim is to look at getting this branch re-activated, and everyone is welcome to come along to offer advice and enjoy a great social event.
‘We will be talking about the recent fee increase letter, how the association works and the Open University in general.
It will allow us to take in and respond to the students’ points of views.’
