From now on, town retailers will be represented under the banner of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce.

The association was originally set up alongside Centre Ville, the group charged with revitalising the heart of St Helier.

Centre Ville was axed last year after funding ran out, although the Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, says that he would like to see it resurrected.

In a letter to members this week, Retailers Association chairman Richard Clews said that it had been a bit of a struggle to keep communication going on a regular basis.

‘It was discussed that the SHRA should be formalised as an association to give it more teeth and clout.

However, this was not met with enthusiasm, particularly when annual subscriptions were mentioned.

On reflection, this is probably not a bad thing, as Jersey suffers from too many splinter groups.
