The men won five of their six matches last year – but missed out on the big one, going down 1-0 for the second year in succession.

All three women’s teams travel hoping to repeat last year’s home wins.

The men’s 1st XI recall Danny Bower, Matt Harris and Bobby Minty into the starting line up.

James Wetherall, Simon Watling and Tony Ray join Bower in a solid-looking back four while the side will also be looking to the attacking flair of new skipper Mark Dicker and Stuart Ramskill – and goals from Ali Hall and Robin Le Quesne.

Ray, doubling as manager, said: ‘We have plenty of skillful attacking players, but the disappointing thing is that we haven’t scored for two years and last year we barely created a chance, even though we enjoyed the better of the game.

‘Guernsey’s advantage is that they play together all season, in UK competitions, and they’re extremely well organised.

They also have their strongest players at the back and in goal so we have to create plenty of chances – and convert some of them – to beat them.’ In the other men’s games Jersey face a tough task to repeat last year’s results as they have been ravaged by injury and unavailability.

On the other hand the ladies take three strong squads and are optimistic.

‘We have a very experienced 1st XI who have been playing in the men’s league all season,’ said coach Helen Wiseman.

‘Becky Darts is very strong in midfield and we have Nina Woods, Lisa Phillips and Chrissie Hefford up front.

‘The 2nd XI includes players who are equally at home playing for the first team, as well as the very experienced players like Linda Addison and Sarah Heelis, and the 3rd XI also has a good mix, with a couple of veterans and lots of youngsters, and they’ve been coached by Nina Woods this season, and have had lots of practice matches,’ Wiseman said.
