Tanguy, in his first race as a senior, scored an impressive victory as he crossed the line 18 seconds ahead of second-placed Andy Hamon in a time of 38 min 36 sec.

Sam Firby was third with Dave Jardine fourth and Chris Spence fifth.

Jamie Barker, the other Caesarean rider who had been in dispute with the club, didn’t race.

Meanwhile CCC’s Mark Wunsch and Simon Fenton won the two-up as they saw off the challenge of their club mates Tony Richomme and Mike Harris with Vélo men Paul Lipscombe and Mark Alsop third.

Nearly 60 riders braved a strong and very cold north easterly breeze for the first race of the season starting at Redhouses, taking in a circuit of Corbiére, the Five Mile Road and up to St Ouen, then back to Red Houses.

Riders had a choice betwen riding alone or as a pair, with the majority of those hoping to be selected for the Island Games choosing to ride alone.

It is easier riding as a pair than alone, so Tanguy’s winning time, riding alone and in his first race as a senior, was exceptional.

In the ladies races Nikki Faux and Mary Crowe of Vélo won the pairs in 49.25 with Helen Goulding of CCC riding as a single, finishing in a time of 47.25.

CCC’s Chris Seviour won the junior single in 49.38.
