The inflatable craft, similar to the St Catherine’s Lifeboat, was en route to Jersey from Poole to be delivered to the St Helier station when it was scrambled.
The B class Atlantic 75 lifeboat, called Eve Pank, had arrived in Alderney at 2 pm yesterday after what the three-man crew described as a ‘lively journey’ in bitterly cold force 6 and 7 north-easterly winds.
Within hours, it was scrambled along with the Guernsey and Alderney lifeboats, the Channel Islands Air Search plane, a helicopter and a local fishing boat.
