Farmer Mac Pollard, who lives below the western end of the runway, had been told that his water was free of the organic pollutant PFOS – which was used in foam sprayed at the Airport’s fire training ground until it was withdrawn in the 1990s – but a recent test has confirmed that it has come back.
The PFOS problem first emerged in 1991 when it was found in the watercourse in St Ouen’s Bay.
The Airport Fire Service immediately stopped using foam containing the chemical and set about removing it from earth around the fire training ground and building a new exercise area to practise their drills in.
