And he has rejected calls for all the States housing stock to be transferred to the Jersey Homes Trust to save taxpayers’ money.

Faced with finding close to £80 million to bring Housing properties up to scratch, Deputy Le Main is determined to fight his corner.

‘There is no question, the money is going to have to be found, and if we don’t move soon, then the Housing Committee will be obligated to go to the States asking to be corporatised.

Then we will be able to borrow against our properties and be able to buy and sell to make better use of our property,’ he said.
