Bob Kearesey’s side beat St Ouen 5-0 at Springfield last night and are now ten points clear of Trinity, their nearest rivals and the team they took the title from last season.

Trinity face Jersey Wanderers on Saturday, and should they suffer a shock defeat, victory for Scottish on the 17 February against St Paul’s would be enough to crown them champions for the second year in a row.

St Ouen are now bottom on goal difference, below Portuguese Club and the struggling pair face a three-way dog fight with Jersey Wanderers to avoid the drop.

Scottish manager Kearsey is well aware, however, that his side cannot afford to rest on their laurels.

‘With respect, we’ve just come off the back of playing the bottom three teams in the league, Wanderers, Portuguese and St Ouen,’ he said.

Jed McConnell’s header put the champions 3-0 up at half time.

The midfielder notched his second after the break and a Matt Smith own goal made it five for the Scots.

St Ouen are now bottom on goal difference, but Kearsey believes they can still avoid the drop.

‘You wouldn’t think they were bottom.’ he said.

‘They showed great commitment and team spirit – and if they can get a win from somewhere it will lift there confidence and they might save themselves.’ Jersey Scottish: Jamie Brewster (gk) (Alan Singh, 15), Gordon Brodie, Ryan Lumsden, Paul Devlin, Yazalde Santos, Chris McNabb (Steven McCarter, 80), Ged McConnell, Dave Brodie (Jordon Docherty, 80), Chris Andrews, Paul Aitken, Ross Crick.
