Eight teams will take part, including two Jersey U12 and one Jersey U11 side, as well as five visiting teams from England – Essex Open A and B, Turnford A and B and Weston Park.
Said coach Jackie Nelson: ‘This tournament provides the girls with an opportunity to play in front of their friends and relatives – something many will remember throughout their sporting lives – and for the majority of U11s this will be their first major event.’ Nelson, who coaches the Jersey teams alongside Yveline Le Manach, said: ‘We have absolutely no idea of the strength of the opposition – but that makes it all the more exciting and it will be a great experience for our girls!’ And she added that, as in previous years, the support of Education, Sport and Culture is invaluable.
‘We couldn’t hold such an event without their help because they provide the finances needed to run an indoor tournament over two days – so we owe them huge thanks.’ ‘And all the umpiring is done by volunteers – in fact, the whole tournament is manned by volunteers.
Events like these just couldn’t go ahead without such people.’ The action begins at the Fort at 10 am on Saturday and spectators are welcome to support Jersey’s young stars.
On Sunday there will a friendly tournament between the teams.
