The men’s doubles county partnership of Gavin Carter and Clive Dunford booked their place in tomorrow evening’s final as they won their group without losing a game.

Australian Matt Le Meur, whose father was an Island junior champion before emigrating to Australia in the 1970s, partnered by Steve Le Roy, had an excellent evening to record a good 15-11victory over Nick and Tim Thorne and finish second in the group.

In the final Carter and Dunford will face the unfamiliar partnership of Ian Coombs-Goodfellow and Dave Luce who comfortably won their section, dropping just 13 points in five games, including an impressive 15-2 victory over Jamie Smith and Colin Hardwidge.

Steve Watson, Coombs-Goodfellow’s usual partner with whom he has won the title on 14 previous occasions, is recovering from an achilles operation.

In the ladies doubles the strong combination of Kerry Coombs-Goodfellow and Lucy Burns won their group comfortably with county players Annabelle Lea and Natalie White finishing second.

Coombs-Goodfellow and Burns meet Jodie Mercier and Kim Ashton in the final – they defeated their closest rivals, Mo Cox and Trish O’Brien, 15-7, 15-7, with the latter finishing second in the group.
