Convent A 47, St Lawrence A 16: Convent scored 14 goals to the Saints’ two in the first quarter, but St Lawrence, with their team restored, rallied with the steady defensive work of goalkeeper Laura Mcfarlene and GD Nikki King.

Although Convent were never fully stretched they had to work the court, centre Laura King linking well with Abigail Hazley to feed the shooters.

Laura Beeston had a superb game, rarely missing a shot and setting a comfortable lead 25-9 by half-time.

The Saints suffered further misfortune when their WD Carly Savage was injured and a substitute was brought on.

Nevertheless, the team’s reponse was one of furious enthusiasm and sheer determination to stay in the game and GA Rena Nelson scored some pressurised long-range shots.

But Convent maintained the same steady play throughout and sailed comfortably to victory.

Convent D 38, Quackers A 39: In a gripping game that could have gone either way Quackers just snatched the win in the end.

Convent started by press-ganging their super-sub Debbie Pitman into the team as GA – that’ll teach her to turn up to support her side! – but Quackers got off to a flying start, scoring 11 goals to Convent’s five.

WA Sally Parker was in inspired form, accurately feeding her shooter Jeanette Morley who wasted little effort in converting shots to goals.

Not to be outdone, Convent picked up the pace and centre Megan Conroy linked well with Sinead Brennan who was wearing the WD bib instead of her usual GK.

With just five goals separating the teams at half-time a few changes were made and play resumed.

But errors began to creep in on both sides and with continued pressure Quackers got a win by just one goal.

Umpires: Sally Danneville and Sarah Burrow.
