Bournemouth Veterans 2, JHC Veterans 3: The JHC started well, with some rapid passing and incisive attacking play.

Jersey went ahead with a goal from Stuart Gower after a shot by Rob Hurry was saved by the Bournemouth ‘keeper, the same two players producing the second after Gower found Hurry in space and the latter smashed the ball in.

Jersey failed to capitalise on numerous chances in the first half, but their defence had only one serious attack to contend with.

Bournemouth upped the tempo after the break and scored four minutes into the half.

In defence Mark Bailey, Richard de Figueiredo, Jonathan Morley-Kirk and Richard Ward worked hard and the midfield provided chances for Hurry.

A penalty flick was awarded after a foul on Hurry and Peter Taylor converted.

JHC made some positional changes as they began to flag and Bournemouth took advantage of them to score their second goal from a penalty corner.

JHC squad: Tim Pollard, Nick Taylor (Capt), Richard de Figueiredo, David Ballingall, Mark Bailey, Jonathan Morley-Kirk, Richard Ward, Paul Masterton, Peter Taylor, Stuart Gower, Conrad Evans, Rob Hurry.

Manager: Adrian Heelis.

OV Veterans 2, Southampton Veterans 9: Although they never stopped working the OVs were simply outclassed by their opponents.

Played as a home tie, but in Southampton, OVs were without Dom Pallot and Mark Fullerton but Charlie Journeaux stepped in to the breech.

Southampton dominated the first half, with OVs allowing them too much space and three goals were scored in rapid succession.

Southampton right wing Ron Mascarenas caused big problems for the OV defence and the score was 4-0 at the break.

The OVs battled back in the second half but there was simply no stopping Mascarenas who completed a hat-trick, plus one more, just to rub more salt in the wound.

Mick Millar moved forward and his persistent running caused problems for Southampton with a penalty stroke being awarded.

It was converted by Tim Herbert and although their opponents scored again, OVs had the last word through Journeaux who drove through and scored with a deft flick.

Squad: Mike Labey, Richard Sugden, Mattie Sutton, Willie Sutton, Mike Tait, Ian Taylor, Ian Cuming, Ian Simpson, Peter Harris, Richard Le Lievre, Tim Herbert, Mick Millar, Nigel de Carteret, Charlie Journeaux.
