The German GP circuit was the venue for Jersey driver Walker to test with Hitech – the team he raced with last season – on a twin-shock set-up for the first time.
He set a blistering pace and managed a lap time of 1 min 56.2 sec on old tyres.
In almost identical conditions the previous day, Alexandre Negrao, who is expected to be in GP2 (what was the old F 3000, one step below Formula 1) next year, did a best time of 1.56.6.
New tyres Walker’s initial run on new tyres was a 1.54.0 but, as it was his first new-tyre run at the circuit and he made a mistake which he thought had cost him a couple of tenths, he expected to be able to find half a second on the next run.
In fact he was down to 1.52.7 after four laps.
Walker said: ‘The day went exactly to plan and we got out of it just what we’d hoped for.
‘It’s looking pretty good, I hope I can repeat that sort of performance in Monza.
I’ll there, with Hitech again, on 14 December.
I was driving with a Honda engine again and that, with the twin-shock, may be the way forward next year.
‘ But Walker is no closer to knowing which team he will be racing with next season.
‘I’m still looking for the place to be – the results at the end of the season are all-important,’ he said.
