The Deputy is understood to have stormed out of the department’s offices at South Hill before a meeting on Friday after apparently being told she was not the preferred choice as vice-president of the newly constituted committee.

However, committee president Senator Philip Ozouf said today that there had been ‘premature speculation’ about the roles various committee members would hold.

‘That will be decided at a meeting on Thursday,’ he said.

Deputy Hilton is understood to have told Senator Ozouf that she felt she no longer enjoyed his confidence and would be resigning.

However, the Senator said today that she did enjoy his confidence and denied he had received any resignation.

He said that the two politicians were due to meet later today to discuss the situation.

Insiders say that Deputy Hilton’s reaction on Friday might make it very difficult for her now to return to the committee.
