Shooting in the Isle of Man in the Ladies Sports pistol event, against three others, including the president of the Jersey Pistol Club Shirley Baudains, Ward produced the highest score to take the gold.
‘I’m delighted to win a gold,’ Ward said.
‘I was very nervous and my hands were shaking a bit.
You just have to overcome that as best you can and keep concentrating.’ Many in the shooting fraternity were saying that this medal made up for the one she didn’t win four years ago.
Ward explained: ‘I was in the Isle of Man back then, competing at the same championships but as a development shooter, in the air pistol class.
I beat everyone including the top ladies and had a really high score – but I didn’t get the medal because I was a development shooter.’ Full report in today’s JEP.
