But their lack of action has been criticised by Deputy Terry Le Main, who described their decision as ‘useless and pathetic’ and says he has no confidence in their ability to tackle difficult issues.

The Privileges and Procedures Committee, which oversees whether States Members act in accordance with their voluntary code, met yesterday to discuss the matter and agreed that it should speak to both parties before deciding how to proceed.

As Deputy Hilton is in the UK, the committee will have to wait before making a decision.

‘The committee are very concerned about the language used, but feel they have to hear if Deputy Hilton is going to go ahead with a formal complaint first,’ said president Deputy Roy Le Hérissier.
