However there are eight local shooters in the current top ten and today’s competition moves to the Les Landes’ range, where the distances increase to 900 and 1,000 yards.
Although only an occasional shooter these days, John Le Breton won the first competition, the Rive Challenge Cup over 200 yards,yesterday.
In decent conditions he top-scored with 50.9.
Meanwhile Richard Benest won the Seymour Trophy at 300 yards, again with a score of 50.9, before David Le Quesne won the Mourant Cup after lunch by one point from R Nelson from Stamford College.
After that Nick Burton from the UK Cadets and the Guernsey Rifle Club won the final shoot of the day, at 600 yards, with a score of 50.9 to win the GH Pool Trophy.
In the day’s aggregate for the Crill Trophy John Carmichael scored 198.20 while Chris Cotillard won the Jersey VIII (stage 2) with a score of 149.18.
In total there are more than 70 competitors taking part and shooting continues over the weekend with the team matches taking place on Sunday.
