The distillery is seen by the Jersey Potato Export Marketing Board as the core of a new industry to benefit farmers and provide a new tourist attraction.

But the project, which would see a substantial factory built on nine vergées of farmland near the manor, has been roundly condemned by St Lawrence Constable Geoffrey Fisher and residents of the area.

Both St John’s Constable, Richard Dupré, and the parish Deputy, Philip Rondel, are out of the Island, but they too are believed to be opposed to the distillery plan.
