Their combined total of 150.21 ex 150.30 means they are in a great position to take the title but firstly have to wait for others to finish.
As mentioned yesterday, Jones was also Jersey’s leading shooter in the St George’s competition with 75.11 ex 75.15 – just four shots off a perfect score.
He missed out on a final play off for first place by just two V bulls.
Horwood was not far behind his team mate with an equally impressive score of 75.10 on the same range, having started with eight consecutive centre bulls.
It has been a good week for Jersey in the competition in Surrey with 12 Islanders making it through to the second stage of the St George’s, which will be shot tomorrow lunchtime.
Two of those were Victoria College students James Marshall and Charles White.
The top 100 in that competition will progress into Saturday’s final, which will be shot over 900 and 1,000 yard ranges.
In the Grand Aggregate, Jersey’s Andrew Le Cheminant is in 29th place with Ian Jones in 59th, Richard Benest in 70th and Bruce Horwood in 102nd.
The Grand Aggregate concludes tomorrow.
Today the Islanders are competing in the most significant event of the week – Her Majesty the Queen’s prize.
