The Royal Court recommended that Antonio Capuano (38) – who was described by the Crown as having a bad criminal record for violence – should serve his sentence in a secure mental hospital in England after hearing about his psychological problems.
Capuano , who is originally from Glasgow, was sentenced for robbing a woman of her mobile telephone at the General Hospital on 7 December; breaking a display cabinet in a jewellers and threatening the manager four days later; vandalising a window at the police station and a door at the Royal Court; and committing a grave and criminal assault on a prison officer and assaulting another on 31 January.
Crown Advocate Julian Gollop told the court that the first offence had taken place just four days after Capuano had been released from a previous prison sentence.
