One of Jersey’s top prospects, Murray was adjudged unlucky by several officials to have lost the light-welterweight contest on a majority decision at Smiths in Glasgow.

Topping the bill for the Denison Club the contest was a thriller, with the 20-year-old Murray cutting King, who is now turning professional, on the eye and lip.

King, from Forgewood, Motherwell, who won his Four Nations title by beating the champions of Ireland, England and Wales, declined a rematch with the rapidly-improving Jersey youngster after the final bell, stating his intention to turn pro.

Murray was pleased with his showing, but told his Jersey coach Dave Thompson that he wished that he had opened up a little bit more.
