‘Quite a few of us were in the beaten inter-insular side and we were determined that we were going to win after that,’ captain Shelby Wright said.’To be honest we thought the match would be much closer – their defenders and their goalshooter play for their island.
But we played really well and, gradually, we began to stretch the gap, until we were 15 ahead at full-time.’It was a true team performance and we were very, very pleased with the result.’With this season their second successive as Deutsche Bank Offshore JNA champions, and with the CI crown safely in their trophy cabinet, St Clement have undoubtedly stamped their authority on Channel Islands netball.’I think it’s because we have such a close-knit squad.
It’s not just the A side, but the B team too.
We have probably not played the same seven players all season, but we have some former first team players, such as Julia Quant and Lisa Bowman, to bring up to the A side if they are needed.
They used to play first team but stepped down to help the youngsters coming through, and we can always rely on them.’St Clement A play their final match of the season on Thursday at the FB, in the annual Champs v The Rest game.
Then the squad can enjoy a month off before summer training starts again in June.
