However, proposals for an entertainment centre and residential use in Hill Street have been rejected.

The bank was looking for alternative uses for Nos 2 and 28 to 34 Hill Street, which were vacated last year when the company relocated to new premises.Last December the group submitted nine in-principle applications for the prime commercial sites to establish which were likely to receive planning approval. The planning applications sub-committee, which is chaired by Environment vice-president Deputy Jackie Hilton, this week considered the applications submitted by architects Axis Mason on behalf of the owners, HSBC Holdings.Assistant planning director Peter Le Gresley commented: ‘The sub-committee have agreed to the uses on both sites of hotel, retail or offices, subject to two conditions, both of which relate to services and deliveries.

But they refused the uses of either pub or nightclub and they also refused residential use.’
