Evolution OV Convicts 9, OV Victims 1: Although the scoreline did little to reflect the balance of play or the industry of an improving Victims side, Convicts converted their chances by scoring from four first-half penalty corner strikes from Robin Le Quesne, Bobby Minty, Mark Dicker and Rich Finch.Tony Ray also lifted a fifth over the diving Victims ‘keeper after a good first touch had taken him clear of the last two defenders.
The determination of Alex Thelland was rewarded with a consolation goal for the Victims.Le Quesne and Minty then added further goals for Convicts in the second half before Victims were reduced to ten men following a foul on Ray.
Finch and Dicker then completed the scoring for Convicts in the dying minutes.Thornbacks 5, Victoria College 1sts 3: Thornbacks secured three vital points to maintain third place in the league in a great game that went right to the wire.Thornbacks took an early two-goal lead when Richard Determeyer scored the first of his hat-trick from the first short corner.
Nick Taylor then pounced on some sloppy defending from the College.
This seemed to wake up the College, who dominated the rest of the half and pulled a goal back to reduce the deficit to 2-1 at half-time.
After the restart it was Thornbacks who scored again from a short corner, with Determeyer proving lethal with some ferocious hits.
College replied to make it 3-2 before Thornbacks restored their two-goal cushion when Dave Fior slotted home in open play.Thornbacks were tiring quickly and College kept battling and were duly rewarded with another goal to make the score 4-3.
College sensed that the game was theirs and continued to dominate.
The Thornbacks’ defence was pushed to the limit with heroics from Paul Masterton at sweeper and Tim Pollard in goal which kept the boys at bay.It was all hands to defence for the last ten minutes and with all the Thornbacks’ players committed to their own half, but with College continuing to try to force the equaliser, they over-committed themselves and allowed Peter Taylor to win another short corner.
Determeyer did not disappoint for his hat-trick and Thornbacks ran out 5-3 winners.

At the other end the Maguire brothers were constantly denied by the College goalkeeper.
Both teams played some very good hockey throughout but their was no further scoring.Crusaders 2, OV Veterans 3: The Vets started the brighter but their early attacks were well kept at bay by John Carnegie and Stuart Richford in defence for Crusaders.OVs built from a solid platform in defence thanks to the play of Dom Pallot and Matthew Sutton, and with the hard-working Peter Harris negating the threat of Crusaders’ skipper Tim Kearsey and the speedy Martin Le Boutillier, it was no surprise when OVs took the lead when Mike Tait scored from the spot.
The game was briefly interrupted following a painful injury to an OV player.
Then, following a series of short corners before man-of-the-match Tait was on hand to bag his second.Richard Le Lièvre moved upfield to play the link striker role to good effect, but the OV goal was more under threat in the second half and after a goalmouth mêlée Marcus Cooper pulled one back for Crusaders. The tackles were flying in thick and fast at this point, and when Nigel de Carteret was felled, a yellow card was shown and Crusaders were down to ten men.
OVs took advantage of that and de Carteret extracted revenge by scoring from close range.
Crusaders didn’t let up however, and scored their second through their top scorer, Simon Garton.RWB ladies defeated Caesareans last Sunday to reach the cup final, a pleasing result for the winners as the previous week they were on the wrong end of an upset in the Women’s Hockey League Division I against the same opponents. The cup match gave RWB the opportunity to get their act together again and they produced a well-organised team performance to win 6-3.Their opponents in the Senior Cup final on 4 April will be Ernst and Young Quackers. In the Minor Cup, Jersey Ladies 1sts will play Crusaders 1sts after the Ladies beat JHC Juniors last Sunday afternoon.JLHC 1sts 4, JHC Juniors 0: The first half was evenly contested, with the boys settling quickly to their game plan.
