Race is on for the vacant seat

The former Senator announced in the States yesterday that he was resigning his seat 20 months before his six-year term of office expires. It is thought that the Senatorial by-election will be held on Wednesday 17 March.St Saviour Deputy Lyndon Farnham said he is considering putting his name forward for the vacant seat.

It is also understood that St Brelade Deputy Peter Troy could be persuaded to throw his hat into the ring.If Deputy Terry Le Main has his way the by-election would be turned into a referendum on the public’s views on his approach to running the Housing Committee.

The Deputy has issued a challenge to arch-critic Deputy Geoff Southern to stand against him following clashes between the two in the States yesterday over claims made by Deputy Le Main about States tenants properties.
