In last night’s election he topped the poll with 538 votes.

The other candidate, former dairy farmer Chris Taylor, received 386 votes.The result of the vote was announced soon after 9 pm by the returning officer, Lieut-Bailiff Jurat John de Veulle, to the friends and supporters of the two candidates who had filled the parish hall in the intervening time after the polls had closed.

Out of a total of 1,612 registered voters, there were 926 votes cast (including two spoiled papers), or 57.44% of the parish electorate.As the results was read out, there was an outburst of cheering, and Mr Dupré was hoisted on to the shoulders of his supporters.He will be sworn in by the Royal Court tomorrow morning.
