It is believed that Herbert’s call-up to the full international team is the first by a Jersey woman since the late 1940s.

The test matches against Japan are to be played at Canterbury and Chelmsford on Tuesday night and Wednesday night. The progression to the senior international squad follows her representation in the past six months in England sides at Under 18, Under 21 and B international level.

The last-minute call-up to the squad is a huge surprise and has only arisen because of injury to two other players.

Furthermore, the squad also excludes those England senior players who have been selected for the England squad participating in Sydney, Australia in the Champions Trophy. The JCG and Quackers player said: “”I am surprised, but very excited at this opportunity.’ There are three other debutants in the England squad, two of whom, Alice Garrad and Chloe Rogers, figured in the Under 18 team with Herbert at this year’s European Youth Championships in Dublin.Herbert should have her opportunity to consolidate because she has also been selected for the England Development Squad which is making a trip to South Africa in December.
