Businessman is elected Constable in Grouville

BUSINESSMAN Daniel Murphy was elected as the new Constable of Grouville yesterday in an election in which 46.89 per cent of the electorate turned out to vote.

Mr Murphy won the election by securing 851 votes to Bruce Willing's 505.The number of votes cast was 1,356 out of an electorate of 2,892 and there were five spoilt papers.

Glorious early autumn weather brought a steady flow of voters to the parish hall throughout the day.

The last people to vote turned up some minutes past 8 pm.Some of those helping at the election said they believed that holding an election at this time of the year was far more encouraging to voters than on wet October or November days.
