Bowls:World’s best U25 players head for Jersey

Hosted and organised by the Jersey Indoor Bowling Association, the event will be staged at the Grainville Indoor Stadium and will include four bowlers from Australia, three from Canada, three from Malaysia, one from Israel, one from Guernsey and a crop of players from the UK and Ireland, plus three from Jersey, including current women’s world champion, Lindsey Greechan.Although Greechan will be competing on home territory, she admits that she is ‘a little nervous’ at the thought of playing in front of a home crowd.John Lowery will, once again, be the main hope in the men’s under-25 event, but no matter who wins either title, earning the right to stage the competition has been a triumph both for the Island and for the JIBA.It is extremely rare for the Island to host such a world class competition (Jersey has staged it once before), and as Jean Lowery, manager/secretary of the Indoor Bowling Stadium explains: ‘everyone who enters hopes to win this year’s title; but at this level the standard of opposition is phenomenally tough.’
