In the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, reporter Carl Walker questioned why, at an earlier hearing, Relief Magistrate Terry Sowden QC had placed a blanket ban on the media naming the woman.Standing up to argue his point, Mr Walker said there was no reason why the media should be prevented from identifying the woman, who at earlier court hearings had been described as ‘playing Fagin to a pack of adolescent crooks’.Magistrate Ian Le Marquand agreed there was no real case for the name of the defendant to be withheld, after reading the relevant law – Article 100 (a) of the Children Jersey Law.
