The JNA Capita Trust Netball Academy is reaping its reward as seven out of nine who set out on their campaigns to be part of the South Region Performance Development Programme have been successful.Eleven regions were divided into three areas with Jersey competing against North Bucks, South Bucks and Berkshire for places in the Under-13, U14 and U15 groups.All nine were chosen to participate in the programme and they have been travelling away regularly to training days.
Last weekend saw the culmination of many hours of practice and training with seven winning through to the South Region Development squads.Successful were U13s Serena Guthrie, Jennie Harrop and Sophie Hickey; U14s Lara Crenan and Lauren Devine and U15s Abigail Hazley and Sophie Holmes.A total of 14 girls out of 40 were selected from each group.
They had to come through fierce competition against girls from Oxford, Wiltshire, North Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, East Dorset, East and Mid-Hants.Linda Andrews, JNA Development Officer, said: ‘This was a totally new experience for these talented youngsters and they acquitted themselves really well under immense pressure.
‘They dealt admirably with different coaches working with them as selectors made judgments on their every move.’
