Les Marais could be for over-50s only

And the committee has decided to allow pensioners to occupy two-bedroom units at no extra cost to a one-bedroom unit so they can have family and friends to stay.Housing president Deputy Terry Le Main said: ‘We’ve decided to start an experiment at Convent Court and Les Marais to make them more secure and solely for use for occupancy by the over 50s.

We will also allow single pensioners to have two-bedroom apartments at the same price they are paying for one-bed units.’This will reduce the number of people living in the blocks and allow them to bring in friends and relatives to stay if they have a spare bedroom.

It is part of the committee’s reward for good tenants policy.’Housing also propose installing caretakers to keep an eye on the buildings, to work with the tenants and to help organise residents associations. And, he added, once the residents association had been formed at Les Marais, Housing would ask the residents to come up with new names for the high-rise blocks.

Deputy Le Main said the changes would apply to the whole of Convent Court and one high-rise block at Les Marais.
