Prue Leith has said she “thought twice” before joining The Great British Bake Off because of her role campaigning for healthy eating.
The former Great British Menu star, 77, has filled the gap left by Bake Off stalwart Mary Berry, following the programme’s move from the BBC to Channel 4.
She told The Sunday Times: “I really thought twice about accepting Bake Off.
“And that’s what we need the nation to do: get interested in the kitchen.”
The new series of the much-loved show will see Leith judging bakes alongside Paul Hollywood, who stayed with the programme when it moved.
Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding take over from presenters Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc.
