Eamonn Holmes says Ruth Langsford will be an ‘inspiration’ on Strictly

Eamonn Holmes joked his wife and This Morning co-star Ruth Langsford will be “an inspiration to older women around the country” as she goes from “hot flushes to hot moves” on Strictly Come Dancing.

Loose Women star Langsford, 57, said her “dream has come true” as she joined the billing for the dancing competition.

She announced she would be taking part while presenting This Morning with Holmes, when she emerged from behind one of three glittery doors, declaring: “It’s me!”

Holmes feigned surprise saying: “What sort of marriage is this?”

Langsford replied: “Did I not mention it? It’s definitely me!”

She added: “I feel a bit shaky now, I’m very relieved because I’ve had to keep this a secret for so long and I’m really excited but just doing that today and knowing it was coming and now it’s out there, there is no going back now.”

The couple were joined on the sofa by former Strictly professional Karen Hardy, with Holmes asking: “What does this mean for me? Often the partner get forgotten and then there is the curse, the curse of Strictly.”

Hardy instructed Holmes to be his wife’s “right-hand man”, adding: “You have got to keep her hips supple at all times. You have so much to look forward to, Ruth.”

Speculating which dancer she will be partnered with, Langsford said: “They are all fantastic, I do worry about who will be able to lift me up.”

Holmes added: “Here is my worry, I think Strictly is fine for people between jobs with a lot of time on their hands. She is flat out at the minute.”

He joked: “She’s got a lot of work and she has family responsibilities which I think may be neglected, I am going to have to worry about who and what I’m coming home to at night, what is going to be on the table and what is in the fridge. Where is she going to find the time?”

Hardy responded: “Eamonn, you’re going to be stepping up, doing the washing.

Holmes replied: “I am so proud and I think you will be an inspiration for older women everywhere around the country, instead of hot flushes, hot moves.”

Langsford said she had dreamed about taking part in the show for years, adding: “I can’t quite believe my dream has come true!

“Without doubt it will be the scariest yet most exciting thing I’ve ever done. It will be a welcome change worrying about my next hot move instead of my next hot flush!”

Langsford is the third contestant to be announced following The Saturdays singer Mollie King and EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami.
