FATHER Christmas arrived at Briggs of King Street on 2 December 1971 and took up residence in his Fairy Cave at the rear of the store. From then until Christmas Eve he welcomed children who wanted to ask for that special Christmas present. The entry fee to see Father Christmas had been reduced to 10p that year, and he had a selection of presents guaranteed to please every child. “I am sure the children will be delighted by the value of the presents and, if they or their parents are not satisfied, I will change their presents” said Father Christmas.
