MANY a favourite Jersey watering hole has come and gone. Here are just a few of the pubs and bars that have shut their doors…
The Harvest Barn in Vallée des Vaux, pictured in 1971. The pub was developed from Moulin Nicolle, a mill dating back to the 17th century and later converted into a farm. The building was derelict when it was acquired by Gordon Taylor in 1958. It was extended in the 1980s and became a very popular venue, with low-beam rustic bars and a courtyard for alfresco dining.
The Château Plaisir on the Five Mile Road, pictured in October 1962, was once one of Jersey’s premier nightspots and a top tourist destination in the 1960s.
The West End on Great Union Road closed down in 2006. Owing to its location near the old police station it was popular with police officers and
ambulance staff.
The Milano Bars, near Le Pulec, was a popular pub in the era when St Ouen’s Bay was at its busiest as a destination for those seeking a good night out.
The Red Lamp (later popular Irish bar Scruffy Murphy’s) on the corner of Peter Street and Ingouville Place, dated back to 1846.
