A FAMILY-FRIENDLY fundraiser will be taking place next month in memory of Beth Phelps.
Held on Saturday 13 September, March of the Inflatables will be a 2.5k-3k walk along the waterfront in St Helier, with participants starting at Jardin de la Mer and walking – or running – to the Look Out café and back, and with everyone wearing or dressed in something inflatable, whether an inflatable comedy hat, a full-body inflatable costume or otherwise.
The good-humoured event will be raising awareness and funds for Love Beth, a charity fund supported by Bone Cancer Research Trust, and which was founded
in memory of Beth Phelps, who died of a rare and aggressive form of cancer in October 2022, just 12 days shy of her 13th birthday.
Discussing the charity, Beth’s parents – Aby and Ben – said: “Love Beth is a fund that we set up in memory of our beautiful 12-year-old daughter.
“We started the Love Beth charity in order to try and improve bone cancer diagnosis outcomes for future patients, and also to create more awareness of this cruel disease that took Beth’s life at such a young age.
“Beth loved to laugh at herself and she also loved to dress up, and she never lost that sense of fun even during her cancer treatment.
“Her wish was to go trick-or-treating while wearing an inflatable dinosaur outfit for her birthday once treatment had finished. She was able to do this – and it is still, today, one of the funniest memories we have of her.
“So March of the Inflatables is for Beth, and it is for people to remember her and also to laugh and be a bit silly – and all while raising a few pennies for a worthwhile cause.”
